Roughly 2.2 million tonnes of iron and steel scrap are landfilled in the UK every year, with further pollution from steelmaking leading to water treatment sludge, nitrogen oxide, coke oven gas emissions [such as ammonium, sulphur dust and naphthalene], and heavy metal dusts that can leach into groundwater. It is estimated that if each one of the UK's ten million office workers used one less staple every day, 120 tonnes of steel would be saved each year.

But with the ‘Greenlok’ you can go one better! The stapleless stapler was designed in the UK, and this world-patented device punches two distinct holes through the folded corner of 6-8 sheets to be attached [depending on paper thickness], whilst simultaneously producing tabs, which lock the papers together as they are withdrawn. These staplers are ideal for use in metal and staple-free environments, such as in catering. Also use with papers that will be recycled or shredded, as staples shouldn’t be allowed to contaminate the recycled waste stream. Manufactured in China, and packaged in recycled board boxes and polythene.

PVC has long been recognised as a particularly hazardous plastic – vinyl chloride itself being a known carcinogen threatening the liver, and the by-product dioxins from manufacture and incineration can persist long in the environment and travel great distances; these are linked to immune system suppression, reproductive disorders and cancer.
